Committment to Animal Welfare & Best Practice
At Karradale we believe in the adoption of practices that enhances the wellbeing and welfare of our the animals we grow here. Our sheep are lambed down into open fields, have premium pastures and we always keep adequate supplies of hay and grain on board to ensure during dryer times we have feed on hand. We have feedlot confinement options where sheep can access feed water and hay easily during the really hard times which aren't very often but can happen.
In the prodution of meat and fibre we use animal husbandry practices such as pain relief at tail docking time and when we mulse which is a practice we currently do to prevent fly strike but are working toward phasing out. We are proud to be acredited with the above programs - The Better Choices® program certifies and declares that our wool uses best-practice methods. The program’s certification signposts to members of the community that our production methods are in line with the program and importantly we are working to create a better life for livestock. We look forward to further improvements in the area on farm in 2020 - watch this space!
